Glow-in-the-Dark Space Ghost (One:12 Collective)

The piece-de-resistance of my batch of Space Ghost collectibles, the inspiration for purchasing the Jace, Jan, & Blip set, we have the One:12 Collective Space Ghost by Mezco Toyz. I have Jay of the Toy Shelf to thank/blame for letting me know about this figure's existence. I love Space Ghost but I love glow-in-the-dark things even more so this was a must get for me.

The figure is very much an updated version of the Mego-style toys. He sports a cloth costume and cape (both non-removable) but has modern articulation and alternate hands with his various rays and beams. And he GLOWS-IN-THE-DARK!

Let's see that beautiful Alex Toth art again.

Not quite the Bat-symbol but sheer elegance in its simplicity.

Inviso-belt.

Power band.

Spooky ghost scalloped cape.

Nice design on the stand. It's the same as the one on the Phantom Cruiser.

He can almost push that button!

"This calls for hyperspeed!"

The cape is actually staying up in that position without any help.

"See my head does have definition."

The gang.

Seeing double.

Space Ghost & the Case of Too Many Blips!

Nice jet pack.

Creepiest Blip face ever.

He's cool as a glow-in-the-dark Blip but also works as an invisible Blip.

Not quite the same as Batman wrapping his cape around.

The effects parts are not labelled anywhere but Big Bad Toy Store where I purchased the figure lists names but not necessarily which name goes with which specific part so I'll label them here based on a minuscule (read: inordinate) amount of research (read: watching cartoons) and some deduction.

"Force Ray"

Not to be confused with "Force Hammer" except maybe it's totally the same.

Force Hammer is the attack my friend's dad likes to shout out whenever Space Ghost is mentioned.

The Force Hammer is a combination of the stun ray with the force energy power. (It all looks the same though)

Here's the "Magna Ray" charging up.

Magna Ray firing.

We'll call this one the "Destroyer Ray"

"Freeze Ray"

Why? Because it was blue in the non-glowing version.

Nicely detailed, right up there with any of the Ultraman effects parts.

"SPAAAAAAACE GHOOOOOOST!"

So now we get to the fun part. How do you take pictures of something that glows in the dark. Generally pictures need light, lots of light. Well if you're me with a very limited knowledge of photography you try this...

...and then recruit your brilliant and beautiful wife to show you how to fiddle with the settings on her fancy camera and get these:

I love the glowing aura.

It's from the light reflecting off of the white background.

I removed the light box and the ambient light from behind the blinds actually helped the pictures look better.

Look at that cape glow!

The patterns are very interesting.

The stand wobbles a bit when you first attach the figure.

That's better.

Unenhanced.

Enhanced with computer magic.
