Freddy (Shazam! Movie)

Freddy Freeman is a foster child at the same home Billy Batson is placed in the movie. He is a bit of a wiseacre and walks with a crutch. When Billy receives the wizard's power Freddy is the one who helps him learn how to use it.

In the comics Freddy Freeman became "Captain Marvel Jr." as discussed in my post of the DCUC version. At the end of the Shazam! film (spoiler alert) Billy shares his power with the rest of his family and they all turn into Marvels without names. Freddy basically has a blue version of Billy's suit much like in the comics but his cape remains white.

Slithe (Savage World)

Slithe is the reptilian leader of the Mutants of Third Earth before the resurrection of Mumm-Ra. As a typical cartoon lizard man he ssspeaksss with sssensssational sssibilant "S" sssoundsss.

Savage World is a line of 5.5" retro-style action figures more like the vintage Masters of the Universe toyline than the 7" figures Thundercats received back in the eighties. I originally scooped up this guy because he wasn't in the short lived Mattel Thundercats Classics line but recently I was able to acquire the rest of Wave 1 and all of Wave 2 so apparently I'm all in on Thundercats?

Full disclosure I probably like Thundercats even more than She-Ra or Masters of the Universe. Sure the heroes look like refugees from a Broadway musical and the villains are pretty unidimensional animal people but I really like them so keep an eye out for more Thundercats!

Ultraman Belial (Spark Doll Sofubi)

Ultraman Belial is a corrupted, evil Ultraman who is the archnemesis of Ultraman Zero.  His stark red and black design really help to cast him as an evil Ultra, along with the giant claws on his hands, his elongated eyes, and the sinister grin on his face.

Despite being obviously engineered to be the dark reflection of the heroes of the Land of Light I really like Belial. He's over-the-top and ridiculous but it works for me. As a sofubi this figure doesn't have much in the way of articulation and next to no paint on the back but the sculpt is impressive.

USS Enterprise 1701-D (Eaglemoss Collectibles)

"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before." When I was 10 years old my life changed when I saw my first episode of Star Trek the Next Generation. It sparked a now-lifelong interest in science fiction and broadened my horizons.

Eaglemoss Collectibles has been releasing a line of die-cast metal Star Trek starships and I've amassing a bit of a collection of them. Of course I had to start with the ship that transported me into this world. The detailing is really great and the paint is very crips and clean. There's naturally no articulation or anything but I really like these starships as display pieces.

Green Lantern vs. Zodac (DC Universe Classics vs. Masters of the Universe Classics)

Mattel had the licence for both DC Comics and Masters of the Universe and since they were making similarly scaled figures for each a crossover was like a match made in Nerd Heaven. They released 7 of these two packs but full disclosure I only got this one because I wanted Zodac and shockingly the inclusion of Hal Jordan lowered his value on the secondary market.

I do love the Green Lantern mythos but I kind of burned out on Hal Jordan years ago. He's just the least interesting Green Lantern to me but I didn't have a modern articulated figure of him so this wasn't really frustrating as a purchase.

Ironically Zodac is depicted with the staff used by his 200X counterpart instead of the blaster he comes with.

Captain Phasma (Star Wars Black Series)

Captain Phasma is one of the breakout characters from the new Star Wars movies. She is a mysterious badass stormtooper with shiny silver armour and a funky cape. Otherwise this figure is pretty identical to the other First Order Stormtrooper figures as far as I can tell. Phasma is a fun addition to the Star Wars universe and this figure is a nice addition to my collection.

Bemular (Ultra Spark Doll)

Bemular is the first monster Ultraman faced back in 1966 and so has a special place in Ultra-history. The design is fairly goony, not particularly threatening but still fun.

This soft vinyl figure has barely any articulation but that's standard. The sculpting is pretty good and there is a decent amount of paint in the right places.

Shazam (Shazam! Movie)

When Billy Batson says the magic word "Shazam!" he is instantly transformed into the World's Mightiest Mortal!

DC's Shazam movie was better than I expected and certainly enjoyed the lighter tone compared to the dreariness of most of the previous DC offerings. The basic line of movie figures are very colourful which is a bonus for me and they come with rubbery, sticky, "Power Slinger" versions of the Seven Deadly Sins. In this case we get "Wrath."

Jet Icarus (Super mini-pla)

Chojin Sentai Jetman is a Super Sentai series from 1991 and is notable for being the season BEFORE the one used for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. However, it certainly stands on its own as an exciting tribute to Science Ninja Team Gatchaman while incorporating all the Super Sentai hallmarks such as a giant combining robot.

This set has all five Jet Machines that combine to form the Icarus Haken (an homage to Gatchaman's God Phoenix) and the robot Jet Icarus who is armed with a variety of weapons.

I really enjoyed Jetman, it was a bit more mature (well as mature as show intended for children can be). The uniforms are cool, the villains are zany, there's an honest-to-goodness love triangle.

This Super mini-pla set is a lot of fun to build and combine into the various forms. It was not cheap but holds a high place in my Super Sentai collection.

Mysterio (Marvel Legends Series)

Disgruntled special effects artist Quentin Beck takes revenge by framing Spider-man for a museum robbery only for his criminal scheme to be revealed by our friendly neighbourhood web-slinger. Mysterio is probably one of the goofiest looking villains Spidey has faced but he's got that Ditko charm that's endeared him to many a Marvel fanatic.

I really really wanted this figure and managed to track him down online for probably way too much money but that'll be forgotten as he takes a place of prominence in my display. I love Ditko's art and this figure is positively oozing with Ditko hallmarks and a hint of Lovecraftian horror.

Kamen Rider Ghost Toucon Boost Damashii GC-07 (Ghost Change)

Kamen Rider Ghost's first major power-up form "Toucon Boost" is a fiery, flashy suit and this figure provides the first attempt by the Ghost Change line to make the hood able to be pulled back.

Quite often the power up forms for Kamen Riders, especially the later Heisei riders, are overly busy and not as cool as the main suit but the Toucon Boost actually looks pretty good. The red body suit makes it clash with the other parka ghosts more but it still works.

GiruGiru (HL Pro Metaltech)

Seventies-tastic box art!

The box was too big to fit in one shot.

GiruGiru is the Vegan Saucer Beast that confronts Grendizer in the first episode of the anime series. The force of Planet Vega want to invade the Earth like they did Duke Fleed's home planet and all that stands in their way is the young prince and his UFO Robo.

This is the second figure in HL Pro's Metaltech line of Grendizer figures and I love them. Again it's a situation where I was late to the party having not discovered Grendizer until a few years ago. Being a smaller company HL Pro's offerings are not cheap but they are pretty cool. I want to acquire more but they require more budget so it'll be a slower process.
