Aquaman (DC Signature Classics)

Aquaman, King of the Seven Seas. This version of Aquaman is straight out of the 90's. After the successful reboots of Superman and Wonder Woman in the wake of Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Comics worked through their roster of heroes tweaking and reimagining for a bold new era. Aquaman eventually got his turn from writer Peter David who wrote the well received "Atlantis Chronicles" showing the history of the underwater kingdom as well as the "Time & Tide" miniseries which set the stage for this new take on Aquaman. Having lost his hand to piranhas while fighting a super-villain, Aquaman replaces it with a harpoon (initially the harpoon that killed his adoptive dolphin mother, it reads better in comics form). Aquaman has long been one of my favourites and I enjoy this incarnation for all his brooding and surliness.

Geldor (Masters of the Universe Classics)

Geldor is a villain from the early days of MotU mini-comics. Apparently Mr. T has elderly relatives on Eternia. Geldor is a simple but fun figure who comes with an axe and a glass of the "Liquid of Life" which is said to bestow immortality. He is defeated by He-Man being purposefully clumsy. Regardless I'm a bit of a sucker for such an obscure character who totally fits in with the greater Masters of the Universe aesthetic and is so totally 80's. (Apologies in advance for all the 80's references)

Ultimate Skeletor (Masters of the Universe Classics by Super7)

Probably the most famous villain from cartoons (at least from the 80's) Skeletor is the arch-foe of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. His bony visage haunts many a modern meme and this figure put a significant dent in my budget via a popular online auction site. I'm not the biggest Masters of the Universe fan but my interest has be piqued in the franchise over the last couple of years and I've scored a few figures from Masters of the Universe Classics that were pretty good but Skeletor has got to be the pièce de résistance of any He-Man collection.

Kamen Rider Kuuga Mighty Form (S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou)

Kamen Rider Kuuga heralded in the Heisei era of Kamen Rider television back in the year 2000 and is one of my favourites. Previously I spotlighted his "Growing Form" and today I'm going show you his red armoured base form. This figure is from the Shinkocchou Seihou sub-line of S.H. Figuarts and is definitely the beneficiary of several more years of action figure engineering research than the earlier figures. Gone are the die-cast feet, the shoulder pads are much more elegant, and the range of motion in the shoulders and elbows is improved but I think the hips don't have the same capacity for doing the splits. That said there are no major holes or cuts in the sculpt so the figure looks intact in every pose. The matte black of the arms and legs is great and really helps the glossiness of the chest to shine. I've gushed about how much I like Kuuga before and this figure is an excellent example of how great the design is. Now I just need to track down the Tamashii-Web Exclusive Amazing Mighty Form and Ultimate Form figures then I'll have a representation of all 11 Kamen Rider Kuuga forms.
