Kamen Rider 1 & New Cyclone (S.H. Figuarts)

Takeshi Hongo is transformed into a cyborg by the evil organization Shocker but he broke free to combat them as the original Kamen Rider. Originally the actor Hiroshi Fujioka did his own stunts but early in the series he was injured in a motorcycle stunt and thus the second Kamen Rider was born. Later on Fujioka returned to the series and eventually sported this new look which became his standard uniform until 2016 (more on that in another post). I bought this figure in a box set with Kamen Rider's redesigned Cyclone motorcycle. It's got all the hallmark S.H. Figuarts articulation and excellent detailing.

I know I sound like a broken record with these Kamen Rider figures but the eyes are just always gorgeous.

Typhoon transformation belt.

I can't tell if scarves in general were big in Japan in the '70s or if this was an idiosyncrasy particular to Shotaro Ishinomori's work.

Grasshopper wings.

The boots even have zippers.

Crazy mouthplate.

Antennae.

Shocker's soldiers are not good at keeping hold of their swords.

Kamen Rider fights them off with one of their own swords in multiple episodes.

"RIDER..."

"...JUMP!"

"RIDER..."

"...KICK!"

Wings for extra lift during jumps?

The logo of the Tachibana Racing Club and also the Double Riders.

Rocket exhaust.

Kamen Rider's got Sole.

  1. Love the bike and the details on this one. It's the reason we shell out so much for the SHF! That kick effect rules, btw.

    1. Yeah totally. The kick effect looks awesome but it can be tricky to get it to stay on the foot. Still, this is an awesome figure for sure.
