Devilman Dynamic Classics (S.H. Figuarts)

Devilman is the eponymous hero of an anime series created by Go Nagai. Also known for creating Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, and many other classic anime and manga series Go Nagai took Devilman to darker places.

Devilman is a demon who has taken possession of a human teenager but fights against his brethren. In the anime since it was aimed at kids they basically treat Devilman like any other henshin hero except that his human identity is a big jerk and the monsters he fights are hella grotesque.

The manga series from the same time was WAY darker and much more disturbing. And from what I gather all the later incarnations of Devilman are more akin to the manga than the anime. So I'll stick to the zany ridiculousness of making a kids show about demons fighting each other where the horror is reasonably tame.

Neutral face.

Monogrammed belt buckle in the shape of your own head...classy.

So many pointy bits.

"Alas poor Yorick..."

Glowering face.

"Devil Dodge!"

Yelling face.

"Devil Cutter!"

...yeah this was totally a kids show...

Devilman in an Ultraman pose? Crossing the streams!

"Devil Wings!"

Some pretty sweet flying poses.

This girder stand is straight out of the anime's end credits.

I struggled a bit trying to replicate the exact pose...

...but imagine some 1970's groovy anime music.

Like this.

I must admit that I love that they went so hardcore to replicate like 5 seconds of screen time.

  1. Nice figure! He looks great in flight. Definitely the new Devilman is super duper dark and also crazy violent.

    1. Yeah I think the newer iterations all follow the manga more than the anime and have way more blood and gore.
