Ultraman Ginga (Ultra-Act)

The hero from the future: Ultraman Ginga. As previously mentioned Ultraman Ginga was the first Ultra Series I watched in its entirety. I feel like the addition of the Zenchin Crystals are an attempt to update the general look of the Ultras and while I love the classics the funky lights are just cool. Unfortunately alternate coloured crystals would've added too much to the price point of this Ultra-Act figure even though I'm sure they entertained the idea as the chest and forearm crystals are removable. The bizarre set-up of recently graduated teens hanging out at their old high school trying to figure out their dreams is ridiculous and a big departure from the standard Ultra Series. Yet it really worked for me in a way that teenager-y stuff rarely does anymore. Also the sheer ridiculousness of just using the Spark Doll toys in the show as power-up objects is so insanely blatant I can't help but love it.

This figure has great articulation and the hands are fairly easy to swap out. The waist joint seems to have gotten looser than I remember but I did get this figure a few years ago now. All in all it doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the figure.

Ginga Rise:

Ginga Cross Shoot:

Nicely translucent.

Ginga Thunderbolt:

Imagine the crystals turning yellow...

And a big swirly yellow cloud forming over his head...

And lightning shooting out of his hand now.

 Ginga Saber:
The crystals turn bright white during this attack.

NOOO!

A red colour timer means Ultraman is running out of time!

Kind of translucent.

  1. Nice figure! That's some pretty great articulation. Is he SH Figuarts? Also, are ultramnan hosts usually teens?

    1. No, Ultraman hosts are not by-and-large usually teens but just like the trend in other tokusatsu shows like Super Sentai and Kamen Rider the protagonists have been getting younger as time goes by. Traditionally an Ultraman host has been a member of a vaguely paramilitary organization that helps fight kaiju.

    2. The figure is from the "Ultra-Act" line which is also made by Bandai Tamashii Nations but at a slightly larger scale than SH Figuarts. That line was discontinued a couple years ago though and now SH Figuarts is making Ultra figures.
