Ultraseven is the hero of the sequel to Ultraman who possibly eclipsed his predecessor in popularity. Originally Ultraseven was a separate unconnected universe from Ultraman but was brought into the same continuity with the subsequent series. He has a detachable blade/boomerang called the Eye Slugger which devastates his enemies along with his Wide Shot beam and Emerium Ray.
The Ultra-Act line is basically S.H. Figuarts for the Ultra Series at a slightly larger scale and was actually folded into S.H. Figuarts recently. Meaning that any new Ultra figures I get will be slightly shrimpier but that's fine. I'm looking forward to getting Dan Moroboshi, Ultraseven's human form. Unlike Shin Hayata who was a real person merged with Ultraman, Moroboshi is an alter ego created by Ultraseven based on a human he rescued when he first arrives on Earth. The Ultra-Act figures are pretty great and they were really my first foray into this crazy world of tokusatsu collectibles. One way in which they are superior to the Figuarts is that every figure comes with a connector piece to attach directly to a Tamashii Nations stand without the claws or clips for better action poses.
This is the renewal version of Ultraseven and he comes with a Wide Shot effect part, an extra Eye Slugger that can be combined with an effect part and an alternate chest shield for obtaining certain poses better. The Emerium Ray effect part comes from the Ultraman Dark/Ultraseven Dark set that came out around the time of Ultraman Ginga. Ultraseven one of my favourite Ultras and this figure does him justice.
His eyes are so weird, but at least the actor could see out of them. |
No Colour Timer, but Ultraseven has energy collectors in his Protector armour. |

Nice! I didn't realize there was an SH Figuarts like line previous to Figma. Cool figure, though the articulated cape splits never seem to work as well as one would hope! I have gripes with my SH Figuarts Batman Injustice one.
ReplyDeleteI think the Ultra-Act line was kind of concurrent with SH Figuarts but Bandai has decided to just fold the Ultras into Figuarts. Capes are hard to get right. This one is ok but I don't know if there is really a perfect way to do capes at this scale.
