UFO Robo Grendizer (HL Pro Metaltech)

UFO Robo Grendizer is the third show in the Mazinger series. It started as an unrelated idea for a UFO themed super robot anime but the studio wanted to connect it with the previous Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger shows.

Duke Fleed is the pilot of Grendizer and the lost prince of the planet Fleed. He protects Earth from the forces that destroyed his home, the evil Vegan Empire (from the star system Vega presumably and not because they followed strict dietary restrictions).

This figure is from a smaller company HL Pro that makes die cast figures in the old chogokin style. The articulation is decent but not as robust as Bandai's Super Robot Chogokin line, however the die cast metal content is much higher. This robo is hefty.

That's a bad-ass robot face. Partly reminds me of Quellor from Teddy Ruxpin.

The gap in the waist is on purpose to avoid scratching paint when posing.

Because giant alien robots need codpieces.

Flying Saucer inspired feet.

Funky horns.

Dance Dance Revolution.

"HAND BEAM!"

"SPACE THUNDER!"

This lightning accessory actually came with the next figure in this line, Saucer Beast GiruGiru.

"Dizer Jump!"

Grendizer cannot actually fly alone but when he docks with the Spazer he zooms around nicely.

There's a removable piece in the back of his neck to allow for this extreme looking forward pose.

"Dizer Punch!"

His Double Harken weapon lost a little paint when I overzealously tried getting it into his hands. The holes in each fist are just a bit too small.

But this way seems not so bad.

No I didn't buy two expensive die cast figures just to get a Space Thunder accessory.
Whatever gave you that idea?

It looks so awesome though don't it?

Grendizer with Mazinger. Probably not in any sort of scale.
