David's Tea Caramel Corn Fruit Infusion

Caramel Corn is a delicious treat but should it be tea? Let's find out! Mrs. ISMOTU picked this up after trying it iced but on this rainy day I thought drinking it hot would be more apropos.

Caramel Corn fruit infusion is made of: apple, cinnamon, pineapple, caramel, currants, almonds, beetroot, coconut, popcorn, and flavouring.

The aroma conveys the sweetness of the caramel and beetroot with the cinnamon not being as strong in the mix as I expected.  I wouldn't expect to know what beetroot smells like but this is similar to the bouquet of Forever Nuts which also has beetroot as a main ingredient which imparts its characteristic pink colour.

The popcorn adds a subtle salty flavour that balances out the caramel's sugar. The other fruit blend into the sweet while the almonds back up the popcorn's savoury notes. All in all a delightful translation of a classic snack food in beverage form and a great companion to my current animated addiciton: Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated.

Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated from 2010 is another of those cartoons that were made when I wasn't looking but is pretty entertaining. It takes modern serialized storytelling and combines it with the classic Scooby Doo mystery-of-the-week formula. Add in a dash of embarrassingly compelling teen romantic drama between the gang and you've got a winner. Fred's trap obsession and obliviousness to Daphne's affection is endearing and Scooby being the third-wheel in Shaggy and Velma's burgeoning relationship adds a twist to the standard "unmask the bad-guy in the third act" plots. This series is clearly having fun with itself and bringing in homages not just to Mystery Inc.'s past but also general horror tropes from sources as varied as "The Phantom of the Opera" to "Nightmare on Elm Street" to "Twin Peaks."  It's great fun.

Ok I guess I should end by summing up the tea once more. The flavour and aroma do a nice job of bringing to mind the sticky/crunchy treat that is caramel corn. It almost makes me want to run out and buy a box of Cracker Jacks. The popcorn side of the equation could be pumped up a bit more in my opinion, though I'm not sure how they'd do that. I might just be influenced by the genmaicha, which I realize I've yet to review, and it's toasted rice flavour. Still Caramel Corn fruit infusion is worth trying out this summer either iced or hot.

  1. Beetroot is just beets without greens - so it should smell like dirt.
